Description	:	Mrs. A.J. Norwood who has been sick for some ten weeks, died at her home in east Nelson early Tuesday morning at the age of 73 years. Mrs. Norwood with her husband who died eleven years ago, came to Nuckolls county (sic) in 1877, settling on a farm north of the Blue river near the old Edgar mill. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, November 28, 1929 ============================= Emmaline (sic) Mercer was born August 11, 1856, in Brown county (sic), Indiana. When a young child her parents moved to Missouri where she grew to young womanhood. At the age of eighteen she was married to Andrew J. Norwood on January 13, 1874. They began their married life in Missouri, but in December 1877, they came to Nebraska, first settling on the Blue river near the old Edgar Mill; later moving four miles north of Nelson where the home was until the husband's death April 3, 1918. After his death she came to town and has made her home here near her oldest son, Frank, who with his wife have so faithfully looked after her for almost ten years. She leaves to mourn, five sons, four daughters, one child dying in infancy; also two sisters. Her sons are: Frank and Chester of Nelson, Roy of Wellfleet, Elmer of Inman, Kansas; Clarence of Central City. Her daughters are Mrs. Jennie Campbell of Grand Island; Mrs Nannie DeHart of Central City, Mrs. Eunice Teel of Pine Bluffs, Arkansas, and Mrs. Clara Basey of Nampa, Idaho. Her two sisters are: Mrs. Mary Randall of Ottumwa, Iowa; and Mrs. Nancy Garringer of Livonia, Missouri; who on account of their advanced age were unable to be at the funeral. Mrs. Norwood was one of the pioneers of Nuckolls county (sic). Her sons and son-in-law were the pallbearers. The funeral was held Friday afternoon at the Methodist church of Nelson, by Rev. Hewitt, pastor of the United Brethren church north of town, where she held membership.
