The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, June 10, 1982 =============================== Elmer Norwood, one of ten children of Andrew J. and Emaline Mercer Norwood, was born May 8, 1890, on a farm near Nelson, Nebraska, and passed away June 5, 1892, at Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital in Superior, Nebraska, at the age of 92 years and 27 days. He grew up in the Nelson area and attended School District #49, Liberty precinct (sic), Nuckolls County, Nebraska. Elmer and his first wife, Bertha, were bless with one daughter. Bertha passed away July 12, 1917. Elmer was later united in marriage to Julia Ourada at Grand Island, Nebraska. To this union two children were born. Elmer lived in Nelson for 41 years, Kansas seven years, California 40 years and Missouri four years. He and his wife, Julia, moved back to Nelson to make thier (sic) home in 1976. He was engaged in farming and also did carpenter work. Mr. Norwood was a member of the Oak Community Church. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; first wife, Bertha; five brothers, Frank, Roy, Chester, John (Charlie) and Clarence; and four sisters, Nannie, Jennie, Eunice and Clara. Survivors include his wife, Julia of Nelson; two daughters, Bernice Barnes of Oakdale, California, and Mrs. William (Marquerite) Brackin of Gainesville, Missouri; one son, Alfred of Modesto, California; seven grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 9, 1982, at 2 p.m. from the Klawitter Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Craig Lawless officiating. Pallbearers were Floyd Meyer, Don Follmer, Lee Clabaugh, Don Biltoft, Mc Adamson and Mike Goslin. "Peace in the Valley" was sung by soloist, Ruth Robbins, with Ivan Schafer as organist.
