Description	:	Obituary Bismarck Tribune (Apr 14, 2009) Emanuel Dirk, 78, Bismarck, died April 12, 2009, at a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 15, at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with the Rev. Paul Becker officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery. Emanuel was born Aug. 1, 1930, at Raleigh, the son of Daniel and Scholastica (Volk) Dirk. He was raised and attended country schools. Emanuel entered the U.S. Army in 1951 and served in Korea. Emanuel was born Aug. 1, 1930, at Raleigh, the son of Daniel and Scholastica (Volk) Dirk. He was raised and attended country schools. Emanuel entered the U.S. Army in 1951 and served in Korea. Following his discharge in 1953, he returned to North Dakota. He married Monica Kautzman on April 24, 1954, in Bismarck. They lived in Bismarck where Emanuel worked as a cab driver. He then worked at Melroe for 30 years before retiring in 1993. Emanuel served in many capacities with the Bismarck Eagles, including president of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. He was also a member of the Bismarck VFW and the Bis-Man Reel and Recreation. Emanuel enjoyed life and had good times traveling to Eagle's conventions throughout the United States. He also enjoyed gardening. In his prime, Emanuel was a big man with a deep voice and still showed tenderness in a caring way to his many nieces and nephews. He is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Anton and Evelyn, Bismarck, Erasmus and Emma, Mandan, and Michael and Leona, Fargo; his sisters, Helen Kahl, Bismarck, Lydia Brown, Arvada, Colo., and Edith Lehner, Spring City, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Monica; his parents; and his brother, Joseph Dirk. (Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck)
