Description	:	EMANUEL ROBERTS Emanuel Roberts, Sr., was born in Manchester, England, June 10, 1836, died at Lamoni, Iowa, February 16, 1924, being at the time of his death aged 87 years, 8 months, and 6 days. As one of three small children, he was brought to this country by his widowed mother. Having heard the angels' message while still in England, Sr. Roberts came directly to Nauvoo, Illinois. Read More	EMANUEL ROBERTS Emanuel Roberts, Sr., was born in Manchester, England, June 10, 1836, died at Lamoni, Iowa, February 16, 1924, being at the time of his death aged 87 years, 8 months, and 6 days. As one of three small children, he was brought to this country by his widowed mother. Having heard the angels' message while still in England, Sr. Roberts came directly to Nauvoo, Illinois. Here she remarried and continued to live until one year previous to the martyrdom of Joseph and Hyrum Smith. From here they moved to Alton, Illinois, and then to St. Louis. It was in St. Louis that he was married to Charlotte Anderson, November 14, 1872. They lived in St. Louis for about six years. From there they moved to Pleasanton, Iowa, where they lived for about twenty years. The balance of their time has been spent in Lamoni. To this union were born five children; Sarah, who passed away in her second year; Mrs. Jessie Doxtater, William J., Emanuel, Jr., and James all of Lamoni. Brother Roberts united with the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on August 6, 1876, being baptized at St. Louis. He remained faithful to his covenant to the time of his passing. In addition to his companion and children, Brother Roberts leaves one half-brother, Charles Tharp of Lamoni, and one half-sister, Maria Swift of Pleasanton, besides a number of other relatives and friends. Funeral was held Monday afternoon from the home, C. E. Wight being the speaker.
