Description	:	Funeral services for Emanuel Zimmerman, age 95, of Elgin, ND will be held at 10:30 a.m. MT on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Elgin. Pastor Edmund Zimmerman will officiate with burial in the Ebenezer Cemetery north of Elgin. Emanuel Zimmerman was born on July 2, 1916 to Gottlieb and Johanna (Schafer) Zimmerman on a farm north of New Leipzig, ND. He attended rural country school until the eighth grade, and then later went on to get his GED. Emanuel worked on his parents' farm throughout his younger years. In 1936 he met the love of his life Lorraine at a school function. He was united in marriage to Lorraine Vetter on June 9, 1940 at the Old Leipzig Ebenezer Church north of Elgin. They farmed in several locations in Grant County until purchasing a place northwest of Elgin in 1951. They farmed and operated a dairy until moving into Elgin in 1969. Emanuel was a very active member of the community. He was a bus driver, Building Trades Instructor, on the Township Board, School board, Sunday School Teacher and was a quartet member for over 60 years. He enjoyed horses, music, restoring furniture and spending time with his family and friends. Emanuel and Lorraine moved into Dakota Hills in September of 2006 and into the Jacobson Memorial Care Center in 2010. Emanuel passed away on Wednesday morning, November 2, 2011 at the Jacobson Memorial Care Center in Elgin, ND. Emanuel is survived by 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Ramona and LeRoy Weikum, Connie and Lee Meyer, all of Elgin, ND; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Tana Zimmerman, Leith, ND; Lloyd and Kathy Zimmerman, Mott, ND; Robert and Karen Zimmerman, Bismarck, ND; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Rubin and Ida Zimmerman, Carson, ND; and one sister, Sarah Luithle, Bismarck, ND. Emanuel was preceded by his parents, his wife Lorraine; one son, Raymond; three sisters, Johanna Scheerer, Frieda Mehrer and Martha Zimmerman and three brothers, Rudolph, Theodore and Herbert.
