Vorba, former Traer girl who died Thursday of last week at a sanitarium in Dubuque, Ia., were held here Monday at the home of her brother, John Vorba, and at St. Vaclav church, near Clutier. Rev. Father Thomas Vopatek, of Clutier, was in charge. Pall bearers were all members of the American Legion of Traer—Milo Mochal, A. F. Vorba, Joe Dedic, H. R. Allaben, Will Kostlan and George Lamb. In honor of Miss Vorba’s service as a nurse during the World war, taps were sounded and a salute to the dead was fired at the grave in St. Vaclav cemetery. The Marshalltown American Legion post also was represented at the funeral. The decedent, best known here as Emma Vorba, was born in Traer May 14, 1884. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Vorba, Sr., deceased. She was graduated from high school here June 10, 1902. She clerked for a time in the T. J. McGinnis store before she entered the St. Thomas Mercy Training School at Marshalltown on June 13, 1911. She did private nursing thirteen years and was also employed in hospitals. She entered the Red Cross nursing service during the World war—on Nov. 4, 1917—and was stationed at Camp Lewis, Washington, until her honorable discharge in May 1918. Later she took a postgraduate course in nursing at the University of Seattle in Seattle, Wash. Miss Vorba was compelled to give up her work in Marshalltown about two years ago on account of failing health. She underwent a goiter operation from which she never fully recovered. Her death a t Dubuque was quite sudden, however, and was probably due to heart disease. Surviving relatives include the one brother, John, in Traer and two sisters—Mrs. Barbara Ineck, of Caldwell, Idaho, and Mrs. Anna Roushar, of Cedar Rapids. Dozens of relatives and friends from out of town were here for the funeral Monday. The floral displays were unusually elaborate.
