Mr. Vorba suffered a severe paralytic stroke ten weeks ago from which he never recovered. He was unable to speak or to eat solid food, and gradually lost in strength as it became apparent that nothing could be done to save his life. His condition was critical for several days before his death, several lighter strokes hastening the end. Funeral services were held at 9 o’clock yesterday morning at Mrs. Stepanek’s home here and at 10 o'clock at the St. Vaclav church, west of Clutier. The Rev. Father T h o m a s A. Vopatek, of Clutier, officiated. Burial was in St. Vaclav cemetery. Pall bearers were Fred Vorba, Alfred Vorba, Adolph Vorba, Wesley Stepanek, Ludvik Stepanek and J. M. Vorba. The decedent, a son of John and Mary Vorba, was born July 4, 1855, in Bohemia, He came with his parents to America at the age of 14, the family settling first on a farm near Oxford Junction, Ia. Later they came to Tama county, where they lived for a number of years on what is now known as the Vlasak farm, located several miles southeast of Traer. In 1878 Mr. Vorba was married here to Miss Mary Jirusec. The couple made their home in Traer, where Mr. Vorba operated a restaurant for more than thirteen years. He was also the proprietor, of a hotel for a time in the early days of the town. The couple were the parents of four children, all of whom are living., They are Mrs. Anna Roushar of Cedar Rapids; Miss Emma Vorba, of Dubuque; Mrs. Barbara Ineck, of Caldwell, Ida.; and John Vorba, manager of the Armour produce station in Traer. Twenty-seven years ago, Mrs. Vorba died, but her husband continued to live in Traer until 1927. For several years he occupied rooms over the Dan Conner barber shop, then located in a wooden building where the present brick structure now stands. About four years ago he moved to Cedar Rapids and lived there with his daughter until February of last year, when he returned to Traer to make his home with his sister after the death of the latter's husband. Mr. Vorba was one of a family of six children, of whom four remain Besides Mrs. Anna Stepanek, of Traer, already mentioned, there is another sister, Mrs. Mary Ferguson, formerly of this place, who lives at Marshalltown. One sister died in Europe a number of years ago. There are two brothers, Joe and Frank, both of Traer.
