Description	:	Emery was first married to Bertha Leeps on November 21, 1914, in Davis County, Iowa. According to his obituary which I have transcribed below, he married Elsie Wright in Canada in 1954. Elsie’s obituary also stated that they were married in 1954 in Canada. According to the marriage records found in ancestry.com, Emery E. Harter married Elsie S. Wright on July 9, 1952, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. At the time of their marriage, both of them lived in Ottumwa, Iowa. ------------------------------ Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” December 17, 1968: Emery E. Harter, 78, died Monday morning at Ballingall Hotel, where he was a resident. He had been in failing health for several weeks. He was an employe of John Morrell & Co. for 20 years, retiring in 1955. The son of Oliver and Isabelle Parker Harter, he was born in Fremont, May 2, 1890. He had been a resident of Ottumwa for the past 20 years, but had lived in West Grove most of his life. He married Elsie Wright in Canada, in 1954. She died on Oct. 2 of this year. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Wallace Henderson of West Grove; two sons, Wilbur and Willis Harter, both of Des Moines; one step-daughter, Mrs. Helen Burnett of Ottumwa; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a twin brother, Earl, and another brother, Walter. The service will be Saturday Home, conducted by the Rev. at 1:30 p.m. at Jay Funeral William Findlay of Westminster United Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
