Elsie Harter, 72, of 1407 W. Highland, died today at 3 a.m. at her home following a sudden illness. The daughter of August and Anna Giese, she was born in Jefferson County April 17, 1896. She had lived in Ottumwa since 1933. She married Emery Harter in 1954 in Canada [sic]. He survives as do one daughter, Mrs. Helen Burnett of Ottumwa Route 1; and one sister, Mrs. Ida Fitzwater of Fairfield. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alvin Wright, in 1943 [sic]. Services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Jay Funeral Home with the Rev. William Findlay of Westminster Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
