His condition was described as very critical. Booze, who is employed in the Eli Brentlinger restaurant, 208 E. North-st, was scalded sometime between 8 and 9 p.m., Wednesday, when he started to refill the coffee urn. He was alone at the time and discovered by David Pauff, 207 E. North-st, who informed the police. He was taken at once to the city hospital. An explanation as to how the accident is believed to have occurred was made Thursday morning by Eli Brentlinger, proprietor of the restaurant. Brentlinger left the restaurant shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday and instructed Booze to clean and fill the coffee urn. He started to work about the time Brentlinger left. While the part of the urn containing the coffee was empty, the water container which keeps the coffee hot was filled with two or three gallons of hot water. URN OVER TURNS Brentlinger did not know of the accident until after Booze was taken to the hospital. He returned at once to the restaurant and found the overturned urn. He says that Booze was standing on a stool and lost his balance when he stepped down, the stool started to turn over. Booze evidently grabbed hold of the urn to steady himself. This turned the urn over, and the water in the boiler poured out of an opening provided for draining the boiler. Booze is an experienced restaurant man and altho employed by Brentlinger only since last Friday, he had been in Brentlinger's employ four or five years ago for considerable time. According to reports from the hospital, about one-half of the body was scalded, especially around his neck, abdomen and back. He was not badly burned about the face. Booze resides with his wife at 411 S. Jackson-st. Scott-st, who died at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Allen-co infirmary hospital from complications after a four years' illness, will be conducted at the residence at 2 p.m. with Rev. V. H. Allman officiating. The Davis-Miller and Son funeral home will be in charge of burial in Memorial Park cemetery. Booze was a native of Jackson Center. Surviving are his wife, Belle; a son, John, at home; and two daughters, Miss Rhea Booze, at home; Mrs. Olive Hamack, Chicago, Ill. Two sisters and a brother also survive. They are: Mrs. Lulu Glick, 1119 E. High-st; Mrs. Margaret Mumaugh, Los Angeles, Calif., and Nevlon, of Ft. Wayne, Ind. One grandchild survives. The body is at the residence.
