Description	:	Glen disliked the name Emil and was known by his middle name. When a young man, Glen stopped using the second "n" in his signature. Glen worked for the C. B.& Q. (Chicago Burlington & Quincy) Railroad prior to WWII, and for a short time after returning to civilian life. He served as a Field Wire Chief, Technical Sergeant in Company A, 93rd Signal Battalion during WWII, serving in Europe. Read More	Glen disliked the name Emil and was known by his middle name. When a young man, Glen stopped using the second "n" in his signature. Glen worked for the C. B.& Q. (Chicago Burlington & Quincy) Railroad prior to WWII, and for a short time after returning to civilian life. He served as a Field Wire Chief, Technical Sergeant in Company A, 93rd Signal Battalion during WWII, serving in Europe. He was assigned to the XII Corps, 3rd Army under General Patton and participated in the Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe battles and campaigns, receiving 4 bronze battle stars. He received the Bronze Star Medal for his actions during the Battle of the Bulge. The citation read in part: "Sgt. Hill was a team leader and was put in charge of a section. His leadership and resourcefulness in rehabilitating French and German telephone lines and in laying spiral four cable, often under extremely difficult conditions in the various types of terrain which was encountered, helped materially to establish and maintain the excellant communication system which the 93rd Signal Battalion was able to give the XII Corps in its drive across France." When he returned home after the war, he farmed and helped his parents and brother, Joe, operate a dairy in Farragut, Iowa; later the family moved to Thurman, Iowa. In 1950, he married Violet Moyer. They lived most of their married life on a farm near Thurman, Iowa. Glen farmed and raised livestock. Glen and Violet had 5 children. Glen became ill and passed away in 1970. Violet never remarried.
