Cahoy, 86 of Avon will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2005 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Dante. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, rural Dante with military honors. Visitation will be at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Chapel in Avon from 11 to 5 Thursday, followed by a Scripture service at the church in Dante at 7:30 p.m. Emil Steve Cahoy, son of John and Mary (Merkwan) Cahoy, was born on the family farm in rural Dante, SD on June 12, 1919. He died Monday October 10, 2005 at Avera St. Michael's Hospital in Tyndall, SD. Emil attained the age of 86 years, three months and 28 days. Emil received his eighth grade education at Rouse 74 Country School near Avon. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1942 and served 22 months overseas in India as a firefighter and 22 months stateside during World War II. Emil was honorably discharged in 1946. Emil married Irene Giedd on November 5, 1946. Four children were born to their union. Emil farmed with his father from 1934 to 1942 before joining the Army. He then went to work for Ralph Luke as a general farm hand and helped Ralph dig graves (by hand). Emil operated Cahoy Septic Tank until his retirement in 1987. It was during this job that he got to know everyone within a 70-mile radius. After his retirement, Emil fished, mowed cemeteries and also worked for the City of Avon. He also loved to push snow for many in Avon. Emil was a member of the Assumption Catholic Church in Dante, the Arthur Wissman American Legion Post 150 in Avon, and the Rollie Bucholz VFW Post 7319 in Wagner. Emil will be remembered for his love of fishing, mowing lawns, pushing snow, car races, and spending time with family. Thankful for having shared his life are his four children: Rodney of San Bernardino, CA; Jean and husband, Dave Boese of Gillette, WY; Pam and husband, Jim Toupal of Avon; and Randy and wife, Susan of Mitchell; 12 grandchildren; one step grandson; 15 great grandchildren; one sister, Tillie Hisek and husband Jim of Tyndall; and many relatives and friends. Emil was preceded in death by his parents; an infant grandchild; and a nephew, LeRoy "Lefty" Hisek.
