Description	:	OBIT: Emil Wilburt "Skinny" Sorenson, 82, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on December 22, 2000. He was born on June 16, 1918 in Ellensburg to Emil and Annine Sorenson. As a youngster, he attended the No. 36 grade school. He graduated from Ellensburg High School in 1937. Read More	OBIT: Emil Wilburt "Skinny" Sorenson, 82, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on December 22, 2000. He was born on June 16, 1918 in Ellensburg to Emil and Annine Sorenson. As a youngster, he attended the No. 36 grade school. He graduated from Ellensburg High School in 1937. He then worked at Eric T. Moe Hillcrest Farm until he entered the Army in 1941. He served in the 41st Infantry Division in Australia and New Guinea until 1945. After returning from the war, he farmed in the Badger Pocket area. He then worked for the Cascade Irrigation District, retiring in 1981. He married Alma Powell on November 9, 1946. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1996, and she preceded him in death in 1998. Skinny was a member of VFW, Moose and an Honorary member of the Gladys Seth Nursing Guild. He will be remembered by his family and many friends as a kind, caring and devoted person. He was continually helping others, and happiest when friends let him help. He was a great story teller and a fountain of information about the Kittitas Valley. We, his family, feel blessed to have had him as part of our lives and will miss his love and laughter. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Skinny is survived by his children and two grandchildren; Patty Sorenson and (Al Llekhus) of Kirkland; Colleen (Ed) Tait of Gig Harbor; Bill (Diana) Sorenson of Chattaroy and their children Troy and Suzanne. He is also survived by his brother, Marion Sorenson and sister, Mary (Hi) Colburn, both of Ellensburg; his loving in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Family and friends may stop by Steward and Williams Chapel on Sunday, December 24, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m., to pay their respects. Scripture service will be held at 7 p.m., December 25, 2000 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, with Mass of Christian Burial held at the church at 11 a.m. on December 26, 2000. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family requests that contributions be sent to VFW, Hospice, Medic One, Gladys Seth Nurses Guild or a charity of your choice, in lieu of sending flowers.
