C.H. Goede officiating. Burial was in Blue Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Emilie Kort Buschow was born in Gross Lueben, Brandenburg, Germany on June 24, 1957 where she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church in 1871. She came to America with her parents in 1872 and the family located at Crete, Nebraska, where they lived one year and then came on to Adams county. On October 25, 1878, she was united in marriage to August Buschow and they homesteaded on a farm one mile north of Blue Hill where they lived until 1909 when they moved to Everett, Washington. On account of Mr. Buschow's health which was not good, they returned to Blue Hill. Mr. Buschow died October 25, 1929. Mrs. Buschow spent her remaining years at her home in Blue Hill. Mrs. Buschow was the first white girl to brave the pioneer life in Webster county. An interesting anecdote in her life deals with the Indians. They were living in a covered wagon, and Mrs. Buschow had shown her skill as a cook to such extent that the Indians became enamored with her because of her culinary art and it was necessary for the men folks of the party to keep strict watch over her to see that the Redskins did not carry her away. Being one of the early settlers of this country, her life, especially in the earlier years, was marked with trials and hardships of pioneer life as only the pioneers know them. Her faith in God encouraged her to bravely face the world and she remained faithful to her church until God in his wisdom called her into eternity on Wednesday, July 6, 1932, at the age of 75 years, and 12 days. She leaves to mourn her death four children: Mrs. Dora Hanich of Everett, Washington who was unable to come because of the illness of her husband; Mrs. Anna Weigel of Nelson, Nebraska; Chris Buschow and Mrs. Amelia Borcherding of Blue Hill. Another son, Reynold, preceded her in death a year ago at Oregon City, Oregon. There are also eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren, four brothers, besides a host of loving friends. Her end came quickly but peacefully and without pain. She received the Lord's Supper and then closed her eyes in the sleep from which none awake.
