Description	:	Another of Nuckolls county pioneer citizens was called to the Beyond the past week. Mrs. John D. Kirkman was well known to most of our older readers. She was among the early settlers in the county and lived here to a ripe old age. As a girl she had the distinction of being personally acquainted with Abraham Lincoln. Shortly after Lincoln was nominated for the Presidency, Miss Young was present at a party in St. Louis and when the hour for refreshments arrived, Mr. Lincoln chose her from the list of guests as the "best looking"... Read More	Another of Nuckolls county pioneer citizens was called to the Beyond the past week. Mrs. John D. Kirkman was well known to most of our older readers. She was among the early settlers in the county and lived here to a ripe old age. As a girl she had the distinction of being personally acquainted with Abraham Lincoln. Shortly after Lincoln was nominated for the Presidency, Miss Young was present at a party in St. Louis and when the hour for refreshments arrived, Mr. Lincoln chose her from the list of guests as the "best looking" young lady present and became her escort for the evening. Emily A. Young was born at Winchester, Ills., on May 15th, 1841, and departed this life on May 8th, 1924, at Woodlake (sic), Nebr., being 82 years, 11 months and 23 days of age. She was united in marriage with John D. Kirkman at Winchester on October 2nd, 1859. To this union there were born six children -- four sons and two daughters. The husband and two sons preceded her in death, leaving to mourn her loss, two sons, two daughters, fourteen grand children and ten great grand children, besides other relatives and a host of friends. She united with the Baptist church as an early age and continued faithful until the end. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. San DeFur, Baptist minister at Superior, at the home of Mrs. J.Q. Johnston near Oak, this county Sunday afternoon and interment was made in the Nelson cemetery (sic).
