Read More	OBIT: Mrs. Emily Christian Geddis, one of the first residents of the Kittitas Valley and mother of the first white boy born in Ellensburg, died Saturday night in Seattle from advanced age. Mrs. Geddis was 80 and had made her home in Seattle for the past 15 years. Mr. and Mrs. Geddis first came to Ellensburg when the town was a small settlement from the Rogue River Valley, Ore. Mr. Geddis almost immediately became interested in the stock raising business and it was he who first realized the possibilities of this valley as a stock raising and dairy section. He was once associated with Oliver Hinman in a hardware store on the corner now occupied by P. Kreidel & Co. He also operated at the same time a meat market farther south on Pearl Street and was the builder of the Geddis block on Pearl Street. Mrs. Geddis was born in Illinois in 1845. She moved to Oregon in her early girlhood and married Mr. Geddis there in 1859. Ten children were born of the union of which six survive: Mrs. J. H. Van Gesen and Mrs. Ivan Wilson of Ellensburg and Oliver, Fred and Jesse Geddis, all of Seattle. Fred Geddis is known as the first white boy in the Kittitas Valley and all except one of the children were born in Ellensburg. Mrs. Geddis is also survived by 16 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Honeycutt parlors with the Rev. Hansen Bergen officiating. Among the following pallbearers are four who were employed by Mr. Geddis years ago: Leslie Gardinier, Jack Galvin, Lou Sharp, Clarence Palmer, Martin Cameron and M. A. Brown.
