Description	:	Emma's parents came from Germany with the name of Simonsmeier, changeing rather quickly to Simmons, and began a new life in Iowa, farming. She was born in Iowa, but on first census of 1870 it says she was born in Germany. She was born in Feb of 1861, after her parents arrived in Iowa, which we have proof of with them buying land in Jan of 1861 and since they married a few months before her birth in the Zalmona Presbyterian Church in the town of Ludlow in the county of Allamakee, Iowa. She was born in Iowa, but on first census of 1870 it says she was born in Germany. She was born in Feb of 1861, after her parents arrived in Iowa, which we have proof of with them buying land in Jan of 1861 and since they married a few months before her birth in the Zalmona Presbyterian Church in the town of Ludlow in the county of Allamakee, Iowa. (it is unknown if they married in Germany (many in family say they had) and just re-did their vows in their new church). Their wedding being the first of ten marriages in the church. They are also buried in the church cemtery behind it. She is the oldest of 6 children, being sister to August, Fredrick, John, Paul and Albert. She and Fred married in Ludlow, Allamakee, Iowa, in 1883. Having grown up together in the same area. Her brothers, all but John and parents (her father passed in 1897), had moved to the Dawson county area of Nebraska from 1890 to 1899. Not all moving together, as some family's did. In 1900 she and Fred were in Buffalo & Coyote Precincts of Dawson County Nebraska farming, near where her brothers were all farming. Listed with them is their daughter Lydia age 11, being listed as born in Nebraska. So we know that they were in Nebraska before her birth in 1899. Emma's youngest brother Albert (24 at the time) was living with them and is listed as farming, he just hadn't built a home yet In 1910 she and Fred are in Scotland, Bon Homme, South Dakota, with two young boys in the home as boarders, their last name being Stark, ages 11 & 12 (parents must of passed). Fred is not listed as farming, but living with own income. So they must of done well with selling of their land in Nebraska. Their daughter is not with them. It's unknown if she married or passed away, before they moved to South Dakota. I had thought maybe that is why they moved there to be near her if she married and moved there. Family history that Beatrice Cleon Simmons Mathys, the daughter of Albert (Emma's brother) did before computers and such, does not even mention her, so am guessing she didn't look at any censuses, since she did not know of this child which would have been her 1st cousin, 6 years her senior, and lived in area when she was born. At some point before their (Emma and Fred) passing, they moved from Scotland, Bon Homme County to Tripp County, South Dakota. So far I have been unable to locate them in the 1920 census. WSL.
