McCartney, in Chelsea township, at 1 p. m. Tuesday, February 25, 1902, Mrs. Emily McCartney, aged 83 years, 11 months and 8 days. Emily Hall was born at Corydon, Ind. She removed with her parents to Henderson, Ill,, where she was married to Samuel McCartney at the age of seventeen. Mr. and Mrs. McCartney at once took up their residence in Rock Island county, Illinois, where Mrs. McCartney continued to make her home until about five years ago, when she came to spend her remaining years with her son Frank at his comfortable home in Chelsea township. Mrs. McCartney had been a widow for nearly fifty-three years, her husband having died April 23, 1849. Mrs. McCartney was a Universalist in belief and as no minister of that church was available, a neighbor, John Archer, offered prayer at the family residence, the brief service occurring at 1 p. m. Wednesday, February 26, the interment being at 3 p. m. that afternoon in the Geneva cemetery. Three sons survive the deceased, J. F. McCartney of this place, a son who resides in Rock Island county, Illinois, and a third son who resides at Los Angeles, Cal. (Nebraska Signal 07 MAR 1902 pg 5)
