Born December 27, 1899 near Hallam in Lancaster County, one of nine childen, she was seriously ill during the first year of her life. Then the family moved to a farm southwest of Dorchester, and she attended Rural Schol District 104. At the age of eight, she suffered from blindness and spent four months at a Lincoln hospital. Born December 27, 1899 near Hallam in Lancaster County, one of nine childen, she was seriously ill during the first year of her life. Then the family moved to a farm southwest of Dorchester, and she attended Rural Schol District 104. At the age of eight, she suffered from blindness and spent four months at a Lincoln hospital. In Crete, after working at the Ben Franklin Store, she became a house keeper, and was also a cook at the Ernie Welsch Hotel during World War II. After 1952, she worked at the Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln for five years, followed by maidwork at the Lincoln Hotel. In 1970, she returned to Crete, and in 1994 entered the Crete Municipal Hospital Long Term Care Center. Emily enjoyed planing the accordion and dancing to polka music. Her sister Josie Vrbsky Matousek also reached age 100. Emily died January 26, 2000. Surviving relatives were many nieces, including Grace Truner of Lincoln, and nephews. Crete News
