Dann was born January 20, 1854, near Randolph, Wisconsin, the third child of Charles and Lucy Dann. She was the last surviving member of a family of five children. On June 12, 1878, she was united in marriage to John Sugden at Fox Lake, Wisconsin. To this union were born thirteen children, Ethel, at home, Mrs. Edith Springer, Charles, Mrs. Mabel Wheeland, Raymond of Brush, Coo., Mrs. Millie Organ, Mrs. Clara Gunn, Mrs. Susie Dillie of Omaha, Mrs. Carrie Beck of Hebron, Nebr., and Leonard at home. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, February 15, 1885 and two sons, Homer on July 24, 1817 and Ernest on April 24, 1920. In 1879 she and her family settled on the farm where she had resided for fifty-three years. She united with the Presbyterian Church of Edgar. Nebraska, in 1905, was a member of the Missionary Society, Ladies' Aid and was a firm believer in the gospel of Jesus Christ. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. She departed from this life August 15, 1932, at the age of 78 years, 6 months and 26 days. she leaves to mourn her departure, besides her children, her husband, twenty-one grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mrs. Sugden was not only faithful at the church services, but a regular attendant of the Sabbath school as well. She believed that the word of God is to be studied, not only in childhood and youth, but throughout life, as it is our comfort in trouble, our guide to the Heavenly Home. On the last Sabbath though her life was but a flicker of the torch, as her Heavenly Father was about to call her home, she insisted that some of the family attend Sabbath school; and great was her interest in all the activities of the church. She bore her illness very patiently and her cheerfulness was remarkable. In life as well as in death, she was cheerful. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Wednesday, August 17, 1932. Rev T. S. Hughes preached from the text, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness," 1 Tim. 4:7-8. Music was furnished by a mixed quartet composed of Mrs. T. S. Hughes, Elizabeth Hughes, J. G. Walley, and J. M. McGhie. The Pallbearers were Troy Organ, Merton, Marvin, Wendell, Rolland and Gerald Sugden, all grandsons of the deceased. The floral offerings were beautiful. Interment was made in the Edgar Cemetery.
