She came to the United States with her parents when quite young. After sometime in the U.S., the family returned to their native country, but did not stay long. They came back to the United States and made their home. Emily had become a good sailor, having crossed the ocean three times. She was married to William Harrison Gearhart, December 8, 1885. Mr. and Mrs. Gearhart came to Fairmont in 1888 and have been residents of this city up to the time of Mrs. Gearhart's death last Friday evening, having spent 58 years in this county. Mr. Gearhart is in a hospital at Lincoln, and was unable to be present at this service. Three children came to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gearhart. They are Carl, who passed away January 31, 1943; Gladys (Mrs. Roy Lefler) of Hastings; and Maurice William of Beatrice. There are two grandsons and two granddaughters, of whom Mrs. Gearhart was very proud because of the many nice things they had done for her. They are Gerald G. Lefler of Pacific Grove, Cal., Cpl. Dale L. Lefler, who is with the occupation forces in Tokyo, and Patricia Mae and Cheri Camille Gearhart of Beatrice. There are two great-grandchildren, Jerry Jr. and John Michael Lefler. Mrs. Gearhart had three sisters, Madeline, Bessie and Anna, all of whom preceded her in death. There is one brother, who lives in Rockford, Ill. He visited his sister just two weeks ago. Mrs. Gearhart was a life long member of the Church of England, but became an associate member of the Presbyterian church of Fairmont and of the Federated church when the Presbyterian and Congregational churches merged. She has always been associated with the Christian forces of this community. This prayer so precious to her, which she left with her choicest possessions, indicates her spirit: "God, keep my heart attitude to laughter, When youth is gone, When the days are gray days After the sun. Keep me from bitterness, from grieving when life seems cold, God, keep me loving and believing As I grow old." Funeral services were held in the Fairmont Federated church, at 2:00 o'clock Monday afternoon, July 8, the pastor, Rev. William Richards, officiating, with Miss Eileen Brown as organist. Interment was made in the Fairmont cemetery, pallbearers being E.M. Rose, A.P. Stewart, George White, W.R. Dorrance, W.E. Black and Harry Bergstrand. Among those attending from other points were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lefler, Hastings; Mr. and Mrs. M.W. Gearhart, Beatrice; Mrs. Amanda Gearhart, Cozad; Lloyd Lefler, Mrs. Nora Pinneo and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Pinneo of York; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Searles, Hastings; and Mrs. Lucille Jones and Paul Jones of Lincoln. ------------------------------------ Born in Wiltshire, England.
