Description	:	Emily Witter Smith was born Oct. 30, 1878, in Woodbine, Iowa, the second child of C.P. and Harriet Hunt Witter. Near the age of 12 she became an active member of the Woodbine Baptist Church. She attended elementary school in the Woodbine community and later graduated from the Woodbine Normal School. Near the age of 12 she became an active member of the Woodbine Baptist Church. She attended elementary school in the Woodbine community and later graduated from the Woodbine Normal School. She taught school several years in that vicinity. She was married to Milo W. Smith on Dec. 5, 1906, in Woodbine. They lived on a farm northeast of Hubbell for several years before moving to Hubbell. This family was blessed with four children: Donald, Amy, Harold and Evelyn. Shortly after coming to Nebraska she became a member of the Hubbell Methodist Church of which she has been a faithful member. She served in the Women's Society of Christian Service and taught Sunday School for many years. After a brief illness, she passed away in Concordia, Kans., on July 31, 1958, at the age of 79 years and 9 months. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Milo W. Smith, her children, Donald and wife, Fern, of Cozad; Amy Quante and husband, Clifford, of Columbus; Harold and wife, Pauline, of Lebanon, Ill.; Evelyn Posvar and husband, William, of Deshler; nine grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. G.F. Haas and husband, Frank, of Oxford, Ia., and a host of other relatives and friends. Services were held Sunday afternoon, August 3, from the Hubbell Methodist Church, Rev. Duane Hutchinson officiating. Burial was in the Rose Creek (Hubbell) cemetery (sic).
