Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 1, 2012, at Christ Lutheran Church (Grant Township), rural Le Mars, Iowa. Rev. Ben Worley will officiate. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2012, at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2012, at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present 6-8 p.m., with a prayer service scheduled at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral. Emma Amelia Harms was born on January 31, 1919, in Le Mars, Iowa, the seventh of ten children born to Henry and Hannah (Dirks) Kleihauer. She was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Le Mars. Emma attended country school near her home and helped her family on the farm. On February 17, 1938, Emma and Frederick H. Harms were united in marriage at the Christ Lutheran Church parsonage. They made their home on a farm in Plymouth County. Along with taking care of their home and family, Emma helped Fred on the farm. In 1953 the family moved to Le Mars when Fred changed his career from farming to carpentry. Fred passed away on August 6, 1990. Emma became a resident of the Plymouth Manor Care Center on September 1, 2007. Emma was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church. In earlier years Emma enjoyed sewing, quilting, vegetable gardening, and fishing with Fred. She also enjoyed reading, listening to music, and attending church and family events. Emma will be lovingly remembered by her daughters and their husbands, Geneva and Marv De Vos and Jeanie and Randy Jelken, both of Le Mars; a son and his wife, Denny and Patti Harms of Le Mars; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Harms of Le Mars; 9 grandchildren, Lorie (Tim) Weiler, Rick (Sherri) Harms, Terri DeVos, Steve DeVos, Dan (Victoria) DeVos, Jodi (Tony) Jacobsen, Jeff (Alisha) Jelken, Alicia Harms, and Nick Harms; 10 great-grandchildren, Kayla, Kendra, Kelsey, Chad, Cody, Toni, Haley, Tyler, Katelyn, and Alex; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Lillian Moller of Le Mars; two brothers Ottie (Jeannine) Kleihauer of Brunsville, IA, and Albert (Milly) Kleihauer of Cherokee, IA; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred; a son, Lanny on February 18, 2000; a grandson, Scott DeVos; a brother, John Kleihauer; a brother and his wife, Henry and Jean Kleihauer; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Anna and John Plueger, Mary and Cletus Wiebersch, Matie and Bob Ruble, and Etta and Henry Beitelspacher; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Kleihauer; and two brothers-in-law, John Moller and Fred Livermore.
