Casady, daughter of Benjamin and Katherine Powell was born in Lebanon, Van Buren county, July 13, 1857, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. J. Hanna, in Richmond, Kansas, June 15, 1940, being 82 years, 11 months, and two days old at time of death. In 1874 she was united in marriage to J. H. Casady and moved to a farm 3 ½ miles north of Cantril; to this union was born six children: Millie who passed away in infancy, H.J. of Cantril, Warren V. of California, B.C. of Cantril, Mrs. Blanche Salser of Carvallis, Oregon, and Mrs. W. J. Hanna of Richmond, Kansas. In 1882 they moved to Cantril which has been her home until last July when she went to make her home with her daughter. Mrs. Casady had been in failing health the past two years, but had born the weight of her eighty-two years to a favorable degree. October the 5th, 1885, she united with the Christian church n Cantril under the pastorate of the Rev. W. K. Slater. Later on she transferred her church membership to the Cantril Methodist church. She took a great interest in her church work, and was very active and dependable in the women’s departments. Her associat… [sic] during those active years bear high testimony to her fine spirit of co-operation and willingness to do her part. Besides her three sons and two daughters, she is survived by two brothers, W.W. Powell of Cantril and Samuel of California. Also one sister Mrs. J.W. Corwin of Laurel, Montana; twelve grandchildren and …[sic] great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held from the Methodist church in Cantril Monday afternoon, June 17, 1940, at 3 o’clock, conducted by the pastor. Music was furnished by Mrs. Fritz and Mrs. Hurwitz. Mrs. George Cretcher was accompanist. Burial was in the Cantril cemetery.
