Description	:	I believe that the Samuel Major Boston I have Emma linked to is her correct first husband, and I also have linked her daughter Iva to this man. It appears that Emma went by Sarah part of the time. There is no doubt from reading their obituaries that she was Iva’s mother. However, there does appear to be some discrepancies in Emma aka Sarah’s date of birth. It appears that Emma went by Sarah part of the time. There is no doubt from reading their obituaries that she was Iva’s mother. However, there does appear to be some discrepancies in Emma aka Sarah’s date of birth. In the 1900 Census for Putnam County, Missouri, a Boston family was living in Elm that I believe was them: Major, age 36; Sarah, age 31, date of birth Feb. 1869; John E., age 13; and Iva M., age 11. They were still in Elm in the 1910 Census: Samuel M., age 46; Emma B., age 39; and Iva, transcribed in ancestry.com, as Ines, age 21. I can find nothing further on Emma or Sarah Boston after that. An Emma Bennett married Samuel M. Boston on February 18, 1886, in Queen City, Missouri. (Name has been transcribed as Burnett in the marriage record in ancestry.com.) Emma’s obituary stated that she was married at the age of 16. If that marriage record was for this Emma, and she was born around 1869, it would fit the statement in her obituary that she was married at the age of 16. However, the Emma in that particular marriage record stated that she was over 18. Also, if Emma had been born in 1877, she would have been 16 in 1893, and her daughter Iva was born in 1889. These old records are helpful, but this is one of those cases where discrepancies occur that I find no explanation for. If anyone believes that I have Emma and her daughter Ivah linked to the wrong Samuel Major Boston, or if anyone has further information about them, please let me know. ------------------------- Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” October 26, 1942: Mrs. Emma Carson, 65, died at 11:10 a.m. today at her home, 415 South Elm street. The daughter of William and Tillie Bennett, she was born February 1, 1877, in Schuyler county, Mo. Survivors include her husband, Charles Carson, a daughter, Mrs. Iva Copp [sic], Ottumwa, and a son, John Boston, Salina, Kan. The body was removed to the Johnson funeral chapel pending arrangements. Funeral services will be at the Johnson funeral chapel at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, conducted by the Rev. A.D. McClure. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery. ------------------------- Second Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier” Mrs. Emma Carson, daughter of William and Tillie Bennet [sic], died October 26, 1942, and was buried from the Johnson Funeral Chapel Wednesday, October 28. She was born Feburary 1, 1876 [sic], in Schuyler county, Missouri. When she was sixteen years of age she was united in marriage to Mr. S.M. Boston. Two children were born, a son, John Boston of Salina, Kansas, and a daughter, Mrs. Ira [sic] Kopp of Ottumwa. She was married September 26, 1938, to Charles Edward Carson. She had five grandchildren–Doyle Steele, Rex and Iola Kopp and Kenneth and Zelia Boston, who survive her. She will also be missed by a host of friends and neighbors. The pallbearers were Burley Reed, Frank Reed, W.A. Hofstetter, Harry Carson, Oscar Garner and John Wheeler.
