Emma Ahrnken was born July 26, 1895 in Scotch Grove Township, Jones County, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Anna Poppe Ahrnken. She received her education in the rural schools near her home. Emma Ahrnken and John M. Lange Jr. were married Jan. 16, 1922 at Champagne, IL. The couple made their home in the Scotch Grove area where John worked as an electrician and Emma worked for Ricklefs Dry Goods store in Monticello. John preceded Emma in death May 11, 1962. Emma continued to work at the store until retirement in 1973. She moved to Ogden Dunes, IN. in 1983 to be near her daughters. Emma was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Monticello. Emma is survived by two daughters, Maxine Matthews of Ogden Dunes, IN, and Yvonne Lange of Chicago, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister and two brothers. Goettsch Funeral Home in Monticello was in charge of the arrangements.
