Mauzy passed to her Heavenly home on Sunday morning, November 15th, after a brief illness brought on by a fall the preceding Wednesday. Her immediate family were all present at the time of her passing. Mrs. Emma Jane Mauzy was born in the Village of Crabbottom, Va., Nov. 16, 1854, daughter of James W. Siever and Martha Katherine Sullenberger (Siever). She is survived by her venerable husband, George W. Mauzy, aged 91 yrs; three daughters Mrs. Clara Hevener, Mrs. Molly Myers and Mrs. Martha Jackson; grandchildren, Glenn Hevener, Mrs. Martha Hevener Hickman, Emmy Lou and Samuel Hevener, Mary and Betty Glenn Myers, and Mary Emma Jackson; and a great grandchild, Clara Louise Hevener. Of her family, three children had preceded her in death, James Clyde and Wm. Whitfield (both in early child hood) and Frederick Glenn, at the age of 34 years. In very early life Mrs. Mauzy became a devout christian, having united with the M.E. Church, South, which she served with rare fidelity during her many years. She was privileged to adorn the marriage vow for the golden period of 64 years, having been married on Aug. 27, 1872. Mauzy were passengers on the incoming Staunton bus Wednesday evening, returning from the North, where they spent the winter. They went from here to their home in New Hampden. Highland Recorder October 18, 1935 MARRIED 63 YEARS AGO The following clipping was taken from the Washington Star, issue of Oct. 8, and accompanied by an excellent pictures of the couple “A joint celebration of the sixty-third wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Mauzy and of the 90th birthday anniversary of Mr. Mauzy was held last night at the home of the couple, 20 Channing street northwest. Mr. Mauzy was born in Highland County, Va., and fought with the Confederates in the War Between the States. His wife Emma Seiver Mauzy, is 81. Attending the party were three daughters, Mrs. Randolph E. Myers of this city, Mrs. Uriah Hevener of Cochranville, Pa., and Mrs. Willis Jackson of Coatesville, Pa., and several grandchildren.” Mr. and Mrs. Mauzy are each native Highlanders, and have endeared themselves to the people of this and adjoining counties. For the past few years, they have been spending the winters with their daughters in Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C., but, when spring arrives, they return to this county for the summer months, where they are always extended a warm welcome by old and young a like. The Recorder desires to join their host of friends in wishing them many happy returns of the day.
