She died August 22, 1974, at the Good Shepherd Home in Blair, where she had lived the last several years. She was 89 years of age. She received her education in the Elkhorn schools. EMMA JOHNSEN, STOREKEEPER AT WASHINGTON, IS DEAD Mrs. Emma Jane Johnsen was born August 7, 1885 at Elkhorn, Nebraska. She died August 22, 1974, at the Good Shepherd Home in Blair, where she had lived the last several years. She was 89 years of age. She received her education in the Elkhorn schools. On February 17, 1904, she was united in marriage to John A. Johnsen in Omaha. The couple set up in farming at Kennard and continued for 18 years. They moved to Washington, Nebraska and operated a grocery store there for 23 years. Two children were born to this union. She will be remembered as a joyful person able to appreciate so many things in life. She liked to garden and usually had a big one. She was openhearted and loved to help those who had special needs. She dearly appreciated her family and also found great pleasure in her friends of the community. She was preceded in death by a son, John W., who died in 1944 and her husband, John A., who passed away in 1963. Survivors include one daughter, Nellie (Mrs. Leonard Hoier) of Washington, Nebraska; one brother, William Winterburn, of Elkhorn, Nebraska; five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends. Services were held at 2 p.m. on August 26 at Swanson Funeral Home in Elkhorn with Pastor Norman Schroeder of Bennington officiating. Pallbearers were Clyde Allen, John Marshall, Henry Winterburn, Lyle Winterburn, Robert Winterburn, and Walter Winterburn. Interment was in Prospect Hill Cemetery near Elkhorn.
