Emma was born on Jan. 23, 1888 at Toledo, daughter of Frank and Anna Benda Kvidera. Emma received her education in country school and then married James J. Caslavka on Feb. 26, 1906 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, south of Clutier. Emma and James farmed six miles southeast of Traer until 1935 when they moved to Traer to make their home. Emma and James were residing at a Tama nursing home when James died on June 27, 1972 and later Emma moved to Sunrise Hill Care Center at Traer, where she died on Sunday, Feb. 1. Emma was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and the A.C.C.W. and Rosary Society. She was preceded in death by her husband and one son, Lester. She is survived by her son, Helidore of Des Moines; two daughters, Mrs. Roy (Mildred) Luze of Dysart, and Mrs. Henry (Bertha) Wiedner of Traer; one brother, Emil Kvidera of Oregon and one sister, Mrs. Helen Phillips of Avon Park, Fla., as well as seven grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Casket bearers were Larry Luze, Richard Luze, Donald Caslavka, Rick Hoenig, James Wiedner, and Willis Wubbena. Honorary casket bearers were Bill Soska, Warren Caslavka, Vincent Caslavka, Milvoy Caslavka, and Gerald Caslavka. Mrs. Fred L. Hushak and Mrs. Evelyn Kosnar were in charge of Mass cards and flowers and Ferd Kvidera was the organist. [Obituary, 1981]
