Rev. Walter Larrabee, pastor of the Community church and Rev. Don McFarling, Scotts Bluff, Nebr., officiating. Pallbearers were J. M. Magness, Allen Testerman, Frank Clegg, Fred Sivertsen, Vernon Nelson and Wm. Templeton. Emma O. Evenson was born on April 23, 1873, the sixth of nine children at Lakes Mills, Iowa, to Alice and Olie Evenson, immigrants from Christiana, Norway. She moved with her parents in 1883 to Buffalo County, Dakota Territory near Fort Thompson, where her father home-steaded and worked as a carpenter. They came by immigrant car to Ree Heights and then by team and wagon to their future home. In 1891 she came to Hand County and was married in 1893 to George McCarthy and five children were born to this union. Mr. McCarthy passed away in 1910 and she later married Adolph Tyler and one daughter was born to them. She also mothered her sister’s children who passed away in 1920 leaving a large family and an infant daughter Maxine which she raised as her own. She passed away at the Community Hospital, Miller, June 18 at the age of 84 years. Surviving is her husband, one son Jack McCarthy, Sioux Falls; five daughters, May (Mrs. Ray Magness), Miller; Daisy (Mrs. O. J. Ericksen) Sioux City, Iowa; Florence (Mrs. George Lloyd) Jewell, Iowa; Emma (Mrs. E. A. Martner) Minneapolis; Doris (Mrs. Fred Peterson) Dubuque, Iowa; eleven grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Out of town relatives attending the funeral were: Mr. Lyle Lein, Portland, Ore.; Clarence and Edwin Evenson, Havana, N. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Lesia Tyler, Adolph Tyler, Veblin; Mr. and Mrs. Gerald McCarthy, Adrian, Minn., Leighton Lloyd, Mankato, Minn.; Garland McCarthy, Ed Evenson, Sioux Falls; Mrs. B. J. Howard, Denver; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Johnson; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Sanderson; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jekyll; Mrs. Donald Case; Mrs. Elmina Enger all of Highmore, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Sutton, Wessington; Mrs. Dallas Gordon and Glenda Sutton of Huron.
