Description	:	Ellendale, N.D. - Emma Rath Nill, 98, of Ellendale, N.D., the daughter of Andreas Rath and Dorthea (Rath) Rath, was born May 25, 1907, south of Kulm in German Township, Dickey County, N.D. Read More	Ellendale, N.D. - Emma Rath Nill, 98, of Ellendale, N.D., the daughter of Andreas Rath and Dorthea (Rath) Rath, was born May 25, 1907, south of Kulm in German Township, Dickey County, N.D. Emma was baptized June 30, 1907. When she was 7 years old the family moved to a farm seven miles northwest of Fredonia, N.D. The family moved to Kulm when Emma was 9 years old and she started first grade. Emma went to school through the 5th grade and then went to work at various farm homes. Emma was confirmed April 9, 1922, at the Kulm Congregational Church. She married Theodore Nill on Sept. 2, 1928, at the Merricourt Congregational Church. They made their home on a farm 14 miles west of Monango, N.D. They farmed there raising small grains and livestock. In October 1975 they moved into Ellendale, N.D. Emma loved flowers and raised them both on the farm and in town. She also loved to knit. Her children and grandchildren all received one of her beautiful afghans. Emma loved to have coffee with her friends. She was a good cook, especially German food, which was enjoyed by her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. Theodore passed away Dec. 20, 1983. Emma continued to live in the home until Nov. 1, 2002, when she entered the Prince of Peace Care Center in Ellendale. She resided there until her death on Nov. 7, 2005. Grateful to have shared in her life are two sons: Darwin (Diana) Nill, Monango, N.D., and Willis (Doris) Nill of Battle Lake, Minn.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; one sister-in-law: Elsie Heinle of Bismarck, N.D. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five sisters, Mathilda Weispfenning, Lydia Kinzler, Hertha Hartman, Elsie Bond and Katherine in infancy. The funeral is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Presbyterian United Methodist Church with Pastor Adrienne Trhlik officiating. Visitation is 2-8:30 Friday with a prayer service at 7:30 at Hoven Funeral Chapel in Ellendale. Burial is at the Ellendale City Cemetery. Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale, is in charge of arrangements. Published in the Aberdeen News on 11/11/2005.
