Emma's obituary - Williamsport Pioneer , April 25, 1924 Emma Rebecca Loyd, daughter of George and Catherine loyd, was born in Warren County, Indiana Aug. 16, 1860, and passed away at her home near Pence, Friday April 18, 1924, at the age of 63 years, 8 months and two days. She was married to LeRoy Smith, who departed this life December 18, 1892, and on March 30, 1910 she was united in marriage to Edward A. Mehaffey. no children were born to either union.. When a young women, she became affiliated with the church within this vivinity, but owing to some obscurity of the records, the precise church is not known. However, it is known that she held a great faith in her Redeemer, and the mortal end was characterized, not by fear, but by blessed hope in His power to save, even from the grave. Her last illness was of two weeks duration, and the immediate cause of death was septasemia. However, we of the Christian faith like rather to look upon the real cause of the cessation of mortal life to be "the still, small voice" of the Heavenly Father calling the tired, weary soul home to rest. And, abiding in that blessed hope, we are confident that our loved one is at rest today in the arms of divine love. She leaves, beside her husband, Edward A. meHaffey, to mourn their loss, two sisters, martha A. Cole, of this vicinity and Mary Miller, of Rogers, Askansas; a half-brother, George L. Pence of West Lebanon and also the children of a deceased sister, Nancy Jane ---- Carl Mehaffey, Emma Davis, Goldie Stetler, Sylvia Martin and Raymond H. Mehaffey. The funeral was held from the Methodist church at Pence at two o'clock Monday afternoon, the pastor, the Rev. Roy L. Emery, officiating. A quartet consisting of Mrs. John L. Forrest, Mrs. John Larch, Walter Ruark and Charles Roe sang appropriate hymns. The Misses Beulah Pence, Susie Roe, Udora Coon, Pauline Coon and Edith Briggs acted as flower bearers. The pallbearerz were the Messrs. J.A. Sowers, J.O. Crane, Bert Etchison, Charlie Herndon, Ora Coon and Horace Day. Interment was in Jordan Cemetery.
