Nov 7, 1907 - Carroll Times - The death at her home near Halbur early Saturday morning of Emma Sophia Rose, wife of Henry Rose, was one of the saddest bereavements that we have been called upon to chronicle for a long time. The fact that she leaves two infant girl babies for whose life she sacrificed her own makes the circumstances peculiarly pathetic. Emma Sophia Meisel was born at Peru, Illinois, March 30th 1877, she was therefore 30 years, 7 months and 3 lays old at her death. She was baptized in infancy according to the rites of the Lutheran church at Peru, Illinois and admitted as a full member through confirmation by Pastor Hermann at Arcadia, Iowa, where she was a faithful member of the church, but for the past eight years she has been a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church of this city. April 12, 1899 she was united in marriage to Henry Rose by Pastor Discher of this city. Their married life was most happy and the future indeed seemed bright to them. Thus, as "every hour is rich with love and every moment jeweled with joy", man is called "to his long home." There survive besides the husband, seven year old son and infant babies, the following brothers and sisters: Henry Meisel, Brunswick, Neb.; Ben J. Meisel, Manning, Iowa; Mrs. Nick Backes, Carroll, Ia.; Mrs. Fred Hoscheid, Brunswick, Neb.; Mra. Albert Hoscheid of the same place and Mrs. Augusta Hofford of Axtell, Neb. All of these were present at the funeral except Henry Meisel. A niece, Mrs. H. Schneider, if Axtell, Neb. was also present. The funeral took place from St. Paul's Lutheran church at 11 o'clock Tuesday forenoon, conducted by Pastor Luebker. He preached a forceful as well as consoling sermon from the text II Cor. 5, 9. The church was packed with an immense throng of sympathizing neighbors and friends. Then the mournful cortege proceeded to the city cemtery, where the remains of the lovng wife and mother were placed with her parents sacred dust. Mother Earth claims her own and in kind accord with our falling tears, the rustling autumn wind scatters a tribute of browned and withered leaves, an offering of the season. "When bright things grieve, Because all fair things die." A noble woman, a loving wife and devoted mother has been called hence. The best testimony to her worth is that of hosts of friends and neighbors who join in sympathy and regret that the light has vanished from another family circle, another husband occupies a home from which all sunshine seems fled. "With them we hope that He Who promised His disciples, "Your sorrow shall be turned into joy," may bring peace and resignation to those hearts now filled with woe. May the eyes of faith let them behold their beloved one in the eternal home above.
