Herald Press of Saturday, 1 Dec 1934: "BUCHANAN, Dec. 1 (Special).—Funeral services were held in Chicago [Cook County, Illinois] yesterday morning for Mrs. Emma Webber Ashcroft, 54, who died in her home in Chicago Tuesday [27 November 1934] of a complication of diseases after a long illness. The remains were brought to Niles, and taken to Rowe [=Howe] Cemetery for committal services conducted yesterday afternoon by Carl D. Hamilton, local mortician. Mrs. Ashcroft was the daughter of Jacob Webber, Buchanan pioneer. Her first husband, A. Welsh [sic], died many years ago and his remains now repose beside those of his wife. Surviving are a son and a daughter [Alfred Tennyson Welch and Jane Louise Ashcroft], both residing in Chicago. Mrs. Arthur Wray of Buchanan was a cousin."
