Cowles ------------------------- E. W. Mumaugh Dies Following Years' Illness Emmett W. Mumaugh, 65, prominent Lima contractor, died Monday night at his home, 1063 W. Market-st, after an illness of a year and a half. Local memorials of Mumaugh's ability include St. Rita's hospital, the telephone building, the Quilna theater, and St. Rose high school. He was widely known in the community and thruout the state. He was a member of the First Baptist church and was affiliated with the Odd Fellows, Elks, Knights of Pythias and Protective Home Circle. Mumaugh was born in Allen-co, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Mumaugh, who lived east of Lima on the farm which was the site of Lima's large waterworks reservoir. He was married in 1883 to Miss Dora Reese. Besides the widow, he leaves two sons, Hobart and Donald Mumaugh, of Lima; seven daughters, Miss Flora Mumaugh and Mrs. A. V. Sibert, West Palm Beach, Fla.; Mrs. R. E. Hefner and Mrs. H. L. Wilson, Alliance; Mrs. Frank Parker, Akron; Mrs. Grace Blume and Mrs. R. G. Albridge, Lima. He is also survived by eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist church, the Rev. W. G. Evans officiating. Odd Fellows lodge will conduct services at the interment in Woodlawn, using the impressive lodge ritual. As a building contractor probably no individual in Allen County has a better reputation nor a longer list of important achievements in construction work than Emmett W. Mumaugh of Lima. He is a practical carpenter and mechanic and has been identified with one line of constructive enterprise or another for more than thirty years. To a man who is proud of his work and aims to do the highest type of building service, there are few lines of Material efforts more satisfying than that of the building trade, since the accomplishments stand out for years in evidence of the thoroughness and care taken in performing the contract. Some of the monuments to Mr. Mumaugh's constructive enterprise may be mentioned in the Majestic Block and the Rhody Building, the Smith and Kyle Block, and many private residences and other structures in Lima. Emmett W. Mumaugh was born in Bath Township of Allen County, Ohio, February 18, 1863, a son of Isaac and Elizabeth (Chenoweth) Mumaugh. His father was born in Fairfield County, and his mother in Allen County, and his father was a substantial farmer in the vicinity of Lima. The son acquired a public school education, and after reaching manhood he learned the carpenter's trade, and developed that eventually into the contracting business. For two years he was connected with the Lima Construction Works and for three years was a worker in the oil fields. He then became connected with the Lima Planing Mill and remained with that business for seventeen years, most of the time as superintendent. In 1912, Mr. Mumaugh set up as a general contractor, and has had all the business he could well attend to and one that has made it necessary for him to maintain a large equipment and force of workmen and involving a considerable capital. He is a director of the Lima Builders Exchange. At the age of eighteen Mr. Mumaugh married Dora Reese of Allen County. Mrs Mumaugh is a director in the Effinger Electric Company. They are the parents of nine children : Flora, now Mrs. `Otto McClain of Chicago ; Zoe, Mrs. Frank Parker of Tulsa, Oklahoma ; Minnie, Mrs. Ralph Heffner of Lima ; and Grace, Mrs. Rollie Blaine of Alliance, Ohio; Hobart, an architect at Lima ; Mildred, Mable, Evan and Donald. Mr. Mumaugh is a past noble grand and chief patriarch in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and served as representative to the Grand Lodge three terms. He has been a loyal and public spirited citizen and for three years he served as a member of the board of trustees for the sinking fund of the city.
