FROM POWESHIEK OBITUARIES: Mr. Emory Happy was born in Greenport County, New York, Sept. 23, 1831, and parted this life at his home one mile south of Brooklyn, Iowa, Sunday morning, March 21, 1909, at 2:30 o'clock, aged 77 years, 5 months and 28 days. On October 16, 1850, he was married to Julia Ann Palmatier who passed away at her home March 17, 1884. He survived his wife by 25 years. To this union were born nine children, five having preceeded him and four survive him: Jacob Happy, Seattle, Washington; Melissa Hegginbotham, Holyoke, Colorado; Elizabeth Peck, Riverton, Iowa; Arthur Happy, Brooklyn, Iowa. There also survive him two brothers and two sisters and nine grandchildren to mourn their loss. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, with which he had been associated for more than 50 years. He was also a minister of the gospel in the early sixties and was a very good preacher. He has been a member of the Masonic order for about forty years. He came to Iowa in the year 1861. He was a loving husband, a kind father, a good neighbor and a generous friend. A good man and a good citizen has gone from our midst. The funeral was held from the Methodist Episcopal church, Tuesday afternoon, March 23, at 2:30, the funeral sermon being preached by Rev. W. L. Clapp. The interment was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery, the services attendant thereupon being conducted by Cornithian Lodge No. 174 A.F. & A.M Suggested edit: Note for Bio: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Although the "POWESHIEK OBITUARIES" says he was born in "Greenport County, NY", no such county actually exists in New York state. However, there is a Greenport city located in Columbia County, NY; and the 1855 NY Census does list his place of birth as "Columbia" County. He was also baptized in the Linlithgo Dutch Reformed Church in Livingston, Columbia County, NY which is three miles south of Greenport, so his Place of Birth should be Greenport, Columbia County, NY rather than Greenport on Long Island, NY.
