Description	:	Engel Johnson was born September 7, 1835 at Mokkestad, Tysnaes, Hordaland, Norway to Johannes Johnson and Ingeborg Ellingsdatter. He emigrated to Quebec in 1857, traveling on to Wisconsin and eventually Iowa. Found in the 1860 census at Mitchell, Mitchell, Iowa: Engel Johnson age 24. Living with the Sever Nelson family and working as a day laborer. In 1861, he went to Wisconsin to enlist in the Wisconsin Regiment of the Army and served in the Civil War. MILITARY RECORD - September 24, 1861: Enlisted in Wergeland Guards, Scandinavian Civil War Regiment, Wisconsin 15th Infantry, as a Musician (drummer). Served in Co. B.... Mustered out with Company B on 2 Dec 1864 at Chattanooga, Tennessee. Post war: In 1892, he was living at Sherman, Lincoln County, Washington.
