Description	:	Martha Johnson was born in Norway April 19th, 1846; died at her home ten miles north of Wilbur December 15th 1912. She came with her parents to the United States in 1849. After living awhile in Wisconsin, they moved to Iowa, where deceased met and married Engel Johnson in 1866. The couple with their children, moved to Washington in 1887, locating on the place where both spent the remaining years of their lives. The husband and father died about twelve years ago. Read More	Martha Johnson was born in Norway April 19th, 1846; died at her home ten miles north of Wilbur December 15th 1912. She came with her parents to the United States in 1849. After living awhile in Wisconsin, they moved to Iowa, where deceased met and married Engel Johnson in 1866. The couple with their children, moved to Washington in 1887, locating on the place where both spent the remaining years of their lives. The husband and father died about twelve years ago. Eight children were born to these parents, six of whom are living, Viz, John E., Edward E., Mrs. Josephine Norby, of Leahy, Martin, Emma, and Lewis. All have reached the years of maturity, and three are married; and all, except Mrs. Norby, live in the immedicate neighborhood of the old homestead where the parents lived and died. Besides her children, deceased is survived by two brothers one of whom lives in Iowa, and Toris N. Johnson, formerly of the Clark neighborhood, but now living near St. Andrews. Grandma Johnson was a typical pioneer women, and a faithful and conscientious member of the Lutheran church. It was ever a part of her lie-work to put into daily practice all the precepts of her Christian faith. She loved her children with a devotion that only a mother can know, and they in turn worshiped at her shrine of live and tenderness. She was a mother indeed, not only to her own, but to all who came under her roof. Ever ready and willing to allay the pains, or condole the heart-aches, of suffering humanity, be they kin or stranger, she won a warm place in the hearts of all who made her acquaintance. A truly good woman has gone to her reward. Funeral services with conducted by Rev. Shurson, of Spokane, and the body laid to rest by the side of her husband in the Sherman cemetery on Tuesday, Dec. 17th, 1912. D.W.A.
