Description	:	These early settlers came to Lincoln County in 1879 and homesteaded three miles southwest of Lennox, in Grant Township. They were married in Ostfriesland, Germany August 9, 1863 and came to the United States in 1869, settling in Grundy County, IA. They stayed in the Hawkeye state until filing on their Grant township claim a decade later. Mr. Bultena was born in Weimer, Germany, February 3, 1837. He grew to manhood there and subsequently married. Mrs. Bultena, nee Engel Muller, was born August 1, 1839 at Weener, Ostfriesland, Germany. Mr. and Mrs. Bultena continued their farming in this community for 26 years and in 1905 moved to Lennox where they spent their declining years. They were for many years members of the Turner County First Presbyterian Church of which congregation they were charter members, and following their making their home here became affiliated with the local Presbyterian Church. This pioneer couple lived to observe their 55th wedding anniversary. They took an active part and keen interest in current affairs, and especially this community. Mr. Bultena was well-known for his sterling qualities and generous nature. Ten children were born to this union, four of whom preceded their parents in death. Mr. Bultena died December 13, 1918 at the age of 81 years, 10 months and 11 days. Mrs. Bultena succumbed on March 17, 1926, at the age of 86 years, seven months and 16 days.
