At the age of 18, he with two brothers went to live in Missouri where he later enlisted in the First Missouri Cavalry Volunteers at the time of the Civil War. Barkley was born in Clearmont, Ohio, Jan. 3d, 1841. At the age of 18, he with two brothers went to live in Missouri where he later enlisted in the First Missouri Cavalry Volunteers at the time of the Civil War. After he received his discharge he was united in marriage to Isabella Grantham, Nov. 16, 1862, at Albany, Mo. To this home came 8 children, 7 of whom are still living. The family moved to Kansas in 1878, where they have resided almost continuously since. The deceased had always lived a moral life, but in 1896 he realized morality was not sufficient, and accepted Christ as his personal Savior. His conversion occurred at midnight in his own home, in prayer with his wife and two daughters. His life since then has testified to the power of salvation. He died May 25th, 1912, aged 71 years, 4 months, 21 days, at Kiowa, Kansas. The funeral services were held from the M. E. church in Kiowa, Sunday afternoon, May 26th, Rev. Ross officiating. Interment was made at Riverview. We earnestly thank those who so kindly helped us in this time of sorrow. Mrs. E. P. Barkley and children.
