TURNER Enoch Thomas Turner, 100 years old, died at 1:35 Sunday afternoon, December 9, at the Reed Rest Home in Shelbina where he had lived since September. Funeral rites were held at Concord church in Shelby county Tuesday with burial in the church cemetery. In his active years Mr. Turner was a prominent farmer. He was born February 14, 1856 and was a brother of the late Dr. George L. Turner of Monroe City. Mr. Turner was four years when the Civil War started and eight when it ended. His father, an Ironside Baptist preacher with sympathies for the cause of Confederacy, was periodically hunted by Union authorities. He was forced to go into hiding and at the time of the Palmyra Massacre it was feared he to would be killed too. Two of his neighbors were captured and shot during a flare-up of cruelty. He is survived by three sons and a daughter, Stanley Turner of Palmyra, Clifton and Lytel Turner of Shelbyville, and Mrs. Hazel White of Cedar Rapids, IA. He was married twice. His first wife lived only 18 months after their wedding. The Mother of his children died September 25, 1929.
