Description	:	CROWELL---Enos Crowell was born near North Clayton, Miami county, Ohio, April 21, 1838, and departed this life at his home near Beaverton, Mich., Sept. 21, 1916, aged 78 years and 5 months. He was the son of Samuel and Elizabeth Crowell, and was the third child in a family of thirteen. Of this family circle only one, the youngest son, survives. He was the son of Samuel and Elizabeth Crowell, and was the third child in a family of thirteen. Of this family circle only one, the youngest son, survives. He was married to Hannah Mohler of Bradford, Ohio, Feb. 5, 1862, and to this union was born three children: Reuben Andrew, who died Sept. 9 1911, Armina Margaret and Ida Elizabeth. There were also 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Soon after his marriage he united with the church of the Brethren, and ever after he gave to it the fullest measure of his devotion. When Bro. Crowell and wife moved to Michigan in 1868, they were the only members of the Brethren church in Woodland township. At that time the county was a wilderness, but they attended services whenever possible at Campbell, Ionia county, making the trip of nine miles with an ox team. The Woodland church was organized in Bro. Crowell's home and this church called him to the office of deacon. In this capacity he was permitted to serve long and faithfully, and no service was ever too great for him to perform. In 1898 Bro. and Sister Crowell moved to Beaverton and a second time they entered on a pioneer experience, both in building up a home and in helping to establish a church at this place. He was an ardent Sunday school worker, and was the first supertendent at the old log schoolhouse. He helped to bring about the regular preaching appointments and the first love feast was held at his home. He was always ready to plan for the betterment of the church, and whenever possible he rendered his assistance, both financially and by his own personal efforts. One of his most prominent characteristics was his faithfulness to duty. Through storm and heat he made his way to the house of God for worship and no slight circumstances could intervene to influence him to remain away. He was much interested in missions, and in the work of the state district, and his last public pledge was given for the Detroit mission.
