Lemuel Floyd's (Gasque's & Keith's), War of 1812. Muster cards & widow's pension posted at this memorial. He was given bounty land for his service in the War of 1812 in Horry, SC. In 1825 he is listed as owning 700 acres & 6 slaves. Pugh Floyd, son of James Floyd & Elizabeth Lewis was born in 1791. He volunteered to serve in the War of 1812, serving as Ensign in Capt James Johnston's Company (his brother-in-law & husband of Celia Ann Floyd), then as Ensign in Capt. Lemuel Floyd's Company, Major Gasque's Rgt., & Keith's Rgt. SC Militia from 19 Oct. 1813 to Dec. 1814. He was honorably discharged at Cat Island, SC. Although Pugh had a son named Lemuel, this was probably his paternal uncle or perhaps brother. The record is not clear on this. Pugh married Jane Graham Sept. 22, 1813, who preceded him in death about 1865. He then married Charity Pittman (no children) & after her death Pugh Floyd married the widow Sarah Hewitt Page on Jan. 30, 1870 (widow of Bennett Page). Pugh died in 1876, age 85. His widow Sarah P. Floyd, was a pensioner. She described him (in his pension file) as "a man low in stature, blue eyes, dark hair & light complexion." Obituary from HORRY WEEKLY NEWS Oct. 28, 1876 Pugh Floyd In this county on the 17th inst., Mr. Pugh Floyd, aged 85 years, 7 months & 15 days old. The deceased was a faithful soldier for his country in The War of 1812 & for many years has been a faithful soldier under the banner of the Cross. A consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal Church: generous: open hearted & kind to his neighbors. His house was never closed against the stranger. A good man in a ripe old age has gone to his reward.
