Doan, a former resident of Ponca was brought here last Saturday on the noon train from Dysart, Iowa, the remains being accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. R.G. Sturtz, the latter a daughter of the deceased. The body was taken from the train to the Presbyterian Church where funeral services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. Rerea at three o'clock in the afternoon. The death of Mr. Doan was sudden. Although a man of advanced years, he appeared to be in perfect health, and on the day of his death he was seated in his room conversing with members of the family when stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage and he passed away, going to sleep like a tired child. He was born in Johnson County, Indiana November 21, 1843 and moved to Iowa with his parents in 1850, and grew to manhood there. He was married to Margret J. Beller on July 3, 1864 and to this union there were born six children, two died infancy, the surviving children are Ida, Dudley, Carie, and George. He moved to Nebraska in 1871 and settled on a homestead, later moving to the B.H. Beller farm where he resided until the death of his wife on December 24, 1890. He then moved to Ponca and from there to Benton County, Iowa, where he spent the remainder of his days at the home of his daughter Mrs. R.G.(Carie) Stutz. He was 73 yrs 10 mo, and 7 days. Beside his children he leaves six brothers, Albin H. Doan of Los Angeles, CA homas C. Doan of Vale, OR Dr. Henry C. Doan of Humbolt, Iowa Frances M. Doan of Cedar Rapids, Iowa William W. Doan of Cascade, Montana Francis Marion Doan (Mrs. Clarence Ward) of Vinton, Iowa. Twelve grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and close friends.
