Born to James D. and Donna Reynolds of Woodbine, Iowa, Eric was the fourth child, joining sister Judy and brothers Craig and Ken. Eric was active in baseball and basketball in his high school years, and after graduating from Woodbine high school in 1971, he went on to college at Dana College in Blair, Nebraska, where he also played basketball for the Vikings. Born to James D. and Donna Reynolds of Woodbine, Iowa, Eric was the fourth child, joining sister Judy and brothers Craig and Ken. Eric was active in baseball and basketball in his high school years, and after graduating from Woodbine high school in 1971, he went on to college at Dana College in Blair, Nebraska, where he also played basketball for the Vikings. He left Dana after two years and went to work in Omaha for Bob and Ray Anderson in their gas station and food Mart business. He made a career with Anderson's and operated his own station and food Mart until his retirement due to health issues. Eric married his long-time best friend Ellen Gigliotti, in 2005. Together, they purchased and operated a horse boarding stable in Gretna, Nebraska for several years. He enjoyed all sports, including horse racing and car racing, which he enjoyed with his friends and brothers.
