Description	:	Erma Lucille Preston was born on a farm south of North Loup, Nebraska, on January 5, 1901, to Susan Augusta Mayo and William Preston, and died suddenly Friday morning, December 23, 1983, at Bethesda Care Center in Exeter at the age of 82 years, eleven months and three weeks. Read More	Erma Lucille Preston was born on a farm south of North Loup, Nebraska, on January 5, 1901, to Susan Augusta Mayo and William Preston, and died suddenly Friday morning, December 23, 1983, at Bethesda Care Center in Exeter at the age of 82 years, eleven months and three weeks. Her early life was spent in and around the North Loup area, and she graduated from North Loup High School, Class of 1920. She was proud of this achievement and cherished her high school friendships, some of which she kept in close contact with since. After high school graduation, she taught school at Horace, Nebraska. On June 9, 1921, she married Albert Baller of Exeter, and they made they made their home on the farm at Blue Vale where they resided until his death in February, 1946. To this union three children were born, Vera Rauscher of Friend, Ruth Taylor of Mesa, Arizona, and Rex Baller of Oakland, Iowa. After her husbands death, she taught rural school at District 98 in York County. On February 16, 1950, she married Bernard Gillan of Fairmont and they moved to a farm Soutth of Utica where they lived until 1970 when they moved to Exeter, Mr. Gillan died in March of 1977. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Exeter. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, of the Happy Hour Extension Club and a charter member of the Cheeralot Club of Blue Vale of which she belonged to over 60 years. On January 4, 1981, an 80th birthday party celebration was held in her honor and to her pleasure and delight was attended by almost all of her relatives and friends. Erma took special interst in her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was greatly honored to be included in their activities when her health permitted. She loved to tell stories of her early days, Erma took a sincere interest in everyone around her, and her thoughtfulness and abiding kindness will be greatly missed. She leaves to mourn besides her three children, eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Two brothers survive her; Howard Preston of Denver, Colorado and Richard Preston of Torrance, California. Preceding her in death were her parents, two sisters; Naomi Mitchell and Esther Preston; two brothers, Robert and David Preston. Further survivors include three step daughters, Alice Biemond of Lincoln, Lela Fish of Reno, Nevada and Ina Belle Demma of Lincoln; nine step grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
