Read More	DROPS DEAD WHILE AT WORK RESIDENT SOUTHEAST OF VILLISCA DIES ALONE IN HIS FIELD HAS RESIDED HERE MANY YEARS Ernest Albert Durham, a resident of Montgomery and Taylor counties practically all his life, was found dead, Tuesday afternoon about 5:30 o’clock in the field on his farm seven and a half miles southeast of Villisca where he had lived twenty years. His death was due to heart trouble, for which he had been taking treatment for several weeks. He was found by his wife a quarter of a mile west of his residence, where he had been plowing. When he failed to appear in sight of the house, as he had been doing regularly while at work in the field, Mrs. Durham went to see what was the cause of his delay and found him lying beside his plow with lines about his waist and his team standing quietly. With his front feet on his master’s breast, Mr. Durham’s dog stood guard over the silent form of the dead man. When neighbors came, after Mrs. Durham had gone to the house to notify them of her husband’s death, the dog refused to let them come near the body until members of the family came to pacify him. It is thought Mr. Durham had been dead only a few minutes when he was found. Ernest Albert Durham was born in Shelby County, Iowa, January 16, 1869, and was 57 years old at his death. He was married to Mrs. Nettie Delaney in Villisca on August 6, 1904, and to this union one daughter, now Mrs. Ralph Arnott of Nodaway was born. Besides his wife and daughter, Mr. Durham leaves also two brothers, Frank of Washington State and Myron of Dexter, Kansas; one sister, Mrs. William Anderson of Kansas; five step-children. They are John and Jesse of Nodaway, George of Atlantic, James of Gravity, and Mrs. C. M. Ewart of Cody, Nebraska. He was a member of the Christian Church. His funeral was held at the Christian Church in Villisca Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, with Rev. Dessie C. Pilalas in charge of service. Interment was in the Villisca Cemetery.
