Description	:	Ernest Belema BAKER, only son of Frank Dennis BAKER and Hannah Mabel SARGENT BAKER, was born August 27, 1901 in Lincoln township, Ringgold County, near Clearfield, Iowa and passed away at Clearview Home, Mount Ayr, Iowa, June 4, 1987. He attended Lincoln No. 9 school and Clearfield High School. He was a member of the Calvary Methodist Church and the Clearfield United Methodist Church. He attended Lincoln No. 9 school and Clearfield High School. He was a member of the Calvary Methodist Church and the Clearfield United Methodist Church. He was united in marriage with Rosa Katherine BECK on January 18, 1922 near Lenox, Iowa. Their first year of marriage was spent on a farm near Lennox, Iowa. Then they moved near Clearfield and resided there until moving to Clearview Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa in 1985 and 1986. In the early days of the farm programs, Ernest took an active part as township committeeman, served nearly 50 years as a township trustess and as a Rural School District Director. He was a member of the Ringgold County Cattlemen's Association and National Rifleman's Association. Ernest cared for the land and conversvation was always a priortiy. He loved to watch his cattle when on pasture. Ernest and Rosa traveled extensively through the years and cherished the many acquaintances and memories of their trips. Ernest's first concerns was always of his family. As a pastime he dearly loved his hunting dogs and watching them chase fox and coyote. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters - Bessie HENN, Fannie WALTERS and Laura PECK; one infant graddaughter, Connie Kay BAKER, and one daughter-in-law, Nina BAKER. He leaves to mourn his passing - his wife Rosa of Clearview Home in Mount Ayr; three sons - Earl and wife Bonnie, Gerald and wife Dorothy and Carroll and wife Leann, all of Clearfield; 7 grandchildren - Galen BAKER and wife Cindy, Juanita HEIMKE and husband Gary, Marvin BAKER and wife Karen and Jerry BAKER and wife Mary, all of Clearfield, John BAKER and wife Lori of Palm Bay, Florida, Sherri DOGGETT and husband Dennis of Seymour, Iowa and Craig BAKER and wife Marketta of Bedford, Iowa. Twelve great-grandchildren - Gabrial, Gretchen and Gentry BAKER, Mark HEIMKE, Rocky, Colby and Brittney BAKER, Caleb BAKER, Ty DOGGETT of Seymour, Iowa and Matthew, Marcy and Brent BAKER of Bedford, Iowa. One sister and brother-in-law, Pearl and Henry BECK of Lenox, Iowa; nieces, nephews and many friends. The past 17 months have been a sad and trying time for Ernrest - as well as his family - who will sadly miss him. The following poem was submitted in his memory: God's Loving Promise God hath not promised Skies always blue, Flower-strewn pathways all our lives through. God hath not promised Sun without rain, Joy without sorrow, Peace without pain. God hath not promised We shall not know Toil and temptation, Trouble and woe. He hath not told us We shall not bear Many a burden, Many a care. But God hath promosed Strength for the day, Rest for the laborer, Light for the lay, Grace for the trials, Help from above, Unfailing sympathy, Undying love.
