Description	:	Ernest E. "Hack" Newingham, Cloud county clerk, died Tuesday evening at St. Joseph's hospital. Newingham's death comes as a shock to his many friends over the county as the 57 year old Cloud county native was not sick until stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage earlier in the day. Newingham was born March 1, 1904 near Concordia, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William L. Newingham. Newingham's death comes as a shock to his many friends over the county as the 57 year old Cloud county native was not sick until stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage earlier in the day. Newingham was born March 1, 1904 near Concordia, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William L. Newingham. As a child he lived in Nelson and Sibley townships and later attended the Wilcox rural school southwest of Concordia. Prior to his election to county office 12 years ago he was employed at the Marting Drug store here. He served many years in the drug business starting this work as a Concordia high school student in the Layton-Neilson drug store. As a youth he worked to help support his widowed mother. He was married to Arty Belle Goodman, November 18, 1930, at Salida, Colo. She survives as does a son, Michiel, and a sister, Mrs. Earl Teasley, Glasco. Newingham's popularity in the county was stressed in the general election returns, even when unopposed. He believed it a privilege to serve the people in conducting the duties of his office. In politics he was a Bourbon Democrat and stood sturdily by his party --win, lose, or draw. One when asked about his political platform, the genial clerk replied " I don't know, I like the office, I like the work, and most of all, I just like people" This statement is a graphic word picture of Newingham's personality. Ernest and Artybelle's son Michiel Martin Newingham, 75, Alta Vista, Kan, passed away Aug. 21, 2014, KCK. Survivors children, Michelle & Mark, grandchildren, Brittney, Morgan & Jayton. Arr.
