Leu, 89, of Valley Falls died Saturday morning at the Jefferson County memorial Hospital in Winchester after several months illness. Ernest was born November 24, 1872 at Nashville, Illinois. At the age of 8 years he moved with his father to the Valley Falls community where he grew to manhood. He made the acquaintance of Elise Reider while she was in America as a governess. Obituary Ernest E. Leu, 89, of Valley Falls died Saturday morning at the Jefferson County memorial Hospital in Winchester after several months illness. Ernest was born November 24, 1872 at Nashville, Illinois. At the age of 8 years he moved with his father to the Valley Falls community where he grew to manhood. He made the acquaintance of Elise Reider while she was in America as a governess. In 1902 he traveled to Switzerland where they were united in marriage on November 22 at St. Stephan. To this union two sons, Samuel Reider of Nortonville, and Marion Clarence of Kansas City, Mo., and one daughter Esther Elizabeth of Valley Falls were born. In 1936 he retired from the farm and moved to Kansas City where he became a night clerk at the Pembroke Apartments. He then retired to Valley Falls about 8 years ago and was presently a resident of the Valley View Nursing Home. He was a member of the Coal Creek Evangelical United Brethren Church. His wife preceded him in death, December 16, 1919, while she was visiting her mother in St. Stephan Switzerland. Since his daughter, Esther had accompanied her mother, Mr. Leu made the crossing to bring Esther back to America. This was his fourth trip to Switzerland. He is survived by his daughter Esther, Mrs. Oscar Reichart; and two sons, Sam Leu of Nortonville; and Marion Leu of Kansas City, Mo. One half sister, Florence, Mrs. Frank Kirchgraber, Colorado Springs, Colorado; one step-sister Mrs. Mary Fowble and a foster brother, John Sennrich, both of Valley Falls, six grandchildren, Mrs. Dolores Stephans, Mrs. June Foley, both of Valley Falls; Judy Reichart of Wichita; Donald Leu, Nortonville and Edward Leu, Winchester. Another grandson, Dean Reichart preceded him in death December 10, 1955. Also six great grandchildren, Larry, Carol Beth, Harold Lee and Mary Lou Stephans, Valley Falls, Sara Leu, Winchester and Kelly Dawn Foley of Valley Falls and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held February 26 at the Coal Creek Evangelical United Brethren Church with Rev. Paul Iwig officiating. The soloist Alvin Hefty sang 'Sun Tomorrow' and 'The Lords Prayer' accompanied by Mrs. Alvin Hefty. Casket bearers were: Charles Reichart, Roy Reichart, Ben Greer, Clarence Brosa, Harold Stout and Ralph Hefty.
